Enjoy this watercolour course in Sevenoaks, by the end of students will have a basic knowledge of composition and colour theory, and will be able to use a few watercolour techniques. Traditional and experimental watercolour techniques will be explored, including the combination of watercolour with other media, e.g. pen and ink, charcoal. By working from both direct observation and from photographic references and sketches, you will encounter a variety of interesting and stimulating subject matter - landscape, still life, natural forms, etc. Reference will also be made to the work of other artists as appropriate.
By the end of the course you should be able to :-
Demonstrate progression in observation and representational drawing skills
· Use a wide range of tonal values
· Display understanding of colour theory and be able to mix a wide range of colours
· Lay and overlay washes
· Use a range of techniques including wet in wet and wet on dry
Plan a compositiion using one or more sources
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Victoria Wainwright
Victoria Wainwright is a professional Artist and Illustrator specialising in pen and ink and printmaking but with a varied background in illustration techniques and briefs. She regularly undertakes commission work where illustration is a feature, and has illustrated a number of published books. Victoria's main interest is in drawing people, capturing their movement and character.
How will I be taught?
Our art courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop, skills, techniques and to acquire an understanding the subject. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, instructions, one to one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.
One to one guidance, group critiques, self-assessment against individualised learning outcomes stated on the Individual Learning Plan.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring to your first lesson
-a round brush preferably a no 12 sable 10 or 14 also fine) or synthetic brush ( eg. Daler Rowney graduate)
- three tubes of paint, preferably cadnmum red (or vermillion) , cadnmum yellow and ultramarine (Student quality is fine eg. Winsor & Newton Cotman but Artist quality is better)
watercolour paper or change (£1.80 )to buy some at the centre.
If you already have paints or brushes similar to above then please just bring those.
Your tutor will then advise you about further materials.
