This Yoga and Pilates course is delivered online using Zoom, in real time, with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners.

In the course students will learn to centre and balance the body and mind and find optimal spinal alignment as a foundation for core strength and stability.

You will learn basic postures and sequences, using breath control with relaxation, and meditation techniques. You will use both yoga and Pilates methods of body conditioning in combination to learn to balance both body and mind.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

- Work through a combination of techniques to improve flexibility,
- Increase muscle strength and tone,
- Create postural alignment.

Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: Jayne Samson

The daughter of a dance teacher, Jayne trained as an exercise instructor in 2000. Her classes combine the enjoyment of dance with the benefits of exercise. Her aim is to create exercise classes that are fun, effective and suitable for every ability.
Jayne has subsequently qualified to teach exercise for the older adult, Zumba, Zumba for kids and more recently as a Yoga teacher in 2016.

How will I be taught?

Teaching methods will include demonstration, explanation, discussion and times for question and answer sessions. Your tutor will demonstrate movements and talk you through all sequences. Activities will be adapted to suit individual needs and capabilities. You will be carefully observed to ensure that you are working safely and be encouraged to monitor and record your progression on the course.
To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise you will be asked to complete a Confidential Health Questionnaire. Your progress will be monitored through a Learning record and your own personal learning diary or fitness log.

What do I need to have with me?

Please bring a non-slip mat intended for Yoga, a blanket and socks for relaxation, a bottle of water. Please wear loose comfortable clothing, you will be asked to exercise in bare feet.

Specialist advice is available from your tutor to help identify the next suitable course for you.
During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. What do I need to join the course

This course is suitable for all, as it is a mixed ability group. People of all ages, beginners and those with some experience of Yoga or Pilates are all equally welcome.

Please take a moment to consider the list below. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake an exercise programme and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor. If you have not checked, or if it is not suitable, please do not participate in this class.

- Do you ever have pains in your chest?
- Have you had any operations or injuries in the last year?
- Do you often feel faint or have spells of dizziness?
- Are you receiving medication for any condition?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
- Do you have a bone or joint problem, such as Arthritis, Osteoporosis, Back or knee
problems?

Pregnant students should not attend classes until they are at least 16 weeks pregnant
