Treasures of History Series - Course 4: Secrets of the Bayeux Tapestry
This short course will enable you to learn something more about the Bayeux Tapestry, its history, its original purpose, the craftsmanship that went into creating it, and its reliability as an historical source almost 1000 years after its completion. We will discuss theories about the origins of this extraordinary work and look closely at the details of what it depicts whilst discovering clues along the way about the ‘hidden’ voices and messages caught within its stitches.

By the end of this course you should be able to:
• Place the Bayeux Tapestry within the context of British history
• Name some of the people featured in the tapestry’s story
• Explain some of the techniques used to create the tapestry
• Discuss the question of what makes this work so valuable
