How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.
What do I need to bring with me?
Your sewing machine, if you have one, with its accessories and instruction book. A notepad and pen and your own sewing kit including sharp scissors for cutting fabric, pins, needles, a tape measure, chalk fabric pencil, sewing threads to match fabrics; a tape measure. A digital camera is also useful. You will need to provide your own pattern, fabric and thread to make a simple garment. The tutor will bring other items you need for the first session and give advice about what to buy if you are not sure.
What can I do next?
Further 'Sewing - Clothesmaking' courses. Your tutor will advise.
What do I need to join the course
This course is suitable for those who have completed the Absolute Beginners course or who have a little knowledge of sewing techniques and their sewing machine, but who need to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence in sewing and using a sewing machine. There are sewing machines for you to use at the Centre, but it is best that you bring your own machine, if you have one, so you get used to using it.
It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity.
