About this course

This course is designed to offer something for everyone, whether you are a complete beginner, a returner or refresher or simply looking for some new inspiration. You will have the opportunity to create a unique lap quilt/small bed quilt, working with a jelly roll, layer cake, fat quarters or fabric scraps. Working in a folk-art style, you will learn to use pieced, patchwork blocks and borders, combined with appliqué and a combination of machine and hand sewing techniques will be taught. For those students who have already completed the previous 5- and 11-week courses, this is an opportunity to experiment on a larger-scale project but there will also be alternative options, allowing students to work on a variety of smaller pieces throughout the course.

Suitable for all levels of sewing skills, you will explore a variety of hand- and machine-sewing techniques which will allow you to improve and expand your own skills. A basic sewing machine is useful but not essential (tutor will advise).

By the end of the course you will be able to:
• Successfully measure and cut accurate pattern pieces
• Make a folk-art style lap quilt or table runner/centre OR
• Make one or more small, quilted pieces
• Understand and demonstrate the construction elements of a quilt
• Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines
