About this course

This practical course will introduce you to the art of innovative arrangements with long-stemmed flowers . It’s a great starting point if you’re a beginner – or are looking to gain some flower arranging confidence, and develop your skills.

You’ll need to bring your own scissors or secateurs, flowers, greenery and mechanics (that’s flower foam, containers and so on - some of these will be available to buy from the tutor, by prior arrangement).

By the end of this course you’ll be able to:

- create a variety of flower arrangements in different styles using fresh flowers and foliage
- confidently apply floristry techniques to an appropriate level
- understand the care and conditioning needs of a variety of plant materials
- show a knowledge and understanding of seasonal plant materials
- demonstrate an awareness of flower arranging basic design

There is no homework requirement for the course, but you will need to provide your own flowers for class each week.

This course will be taught by Julie Davies flower workshops – Julie is an awarding winning florist – BFA Florist Tutor of the year 2016

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and craftspeople and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance personal skills.

Your tutor will give you individual feedback on your progress throughout the course.
